Patrick Rubinstein was born in Paris in 1960. His childhood had a lasting impact on him and would later influence his artistic language. Paris was then in the grip of British rock, cinema, and American pop culture. He grew up in a family that encouraged his interest in art. He inherited his mother’s passion for cinema and his father’s inventive spirit. It was his father who first introduced him to kinetic art techniques. This introduction and the influence of pop culture in his youth would prove decisive in his future artistic creation.

The artist draws his themes from the past and the present. He crafts his works like a goldsmith. The result is striking: Patrick Rubinstein offers us futuristic and avant-garde works.

At the age of 18, he sold his first works. Never giving up on innovation, it was only many years later that the artist perfected his technique and language. Today, he offers internationally recognized work. The principle of the Dooble lies in the fusion of two images designed to blend into one. This new merged image is applied to an accordion-shaped support. Applying the image to this support recreates the two original images on either side at a 45° angle. Several other images, intertwining the two views, are created as the viewer moves around the work.

The principle of the Triple lies in three images, one central and two lateral. The lateral views are created by slats inserted perpendicular to the central image. They offer two distinct images, on either side at 45°. This technique allows for a variation in perception through movement and ensures a clear view of the central image.

The effect of these two techniques is striking, giving the works a lively and perpetually renewed appearance.

Movement is not the only element that varies perception. The intensity and orientation of the light also play a role in the kinetic effect of the work.
